It was around 9 o'clock in the evening when tension suddenly boiled over in the neighbourhood of one woman's forum member named Tryness Poya, who is the secretary for Kanyenda Women's Forum based in Traditional Authority Kanyenda in Nkhotakota District.

According to her, two children, who had been in conflict and got into a serious fight in the late afternoon hours of that particular day, caught the attention of their families. The noise drew neighbours, and with fury, the parent of the other child who was injured came together with their three children to take revenge.

However, it was too late for the villagers to rescue the 14 years old boy into the hands of the attackers as he was physically harmed during the clash.

Later, after revenging, the family had to take their child to the hospital, where doctors insisted for a police report for them to be assisted.

It was so unfortunate for the young boy to seek the police report, as it daunted in him that karma is real upon being locked in the walls of the police cell.

Feeling overwhelmed, his mother sought assistance from Kanyenda Women’s Forum, who helped out to mediate the case at the police station, encouraged medical care for the child in the cell, and insisted both parties should repay their damages.

Their efforts ensured medical bills were paid, compensation given, and, most importantly, that both families were contented with the judgment at-last.

Empowered under the women voice for peace project, which is being implemented by UmunthuPlus with financial support from Womens Peace and Humanitarian Fund-WPHF through UN Women Malawi, the forum members have individually become champions of fairness in the neighbourhood and beyond.
