Umunthu Plus (UP) is a Malawian not for profit organization registered with Government of Malawi, Council for Non-Governmental Organization of Malawi (CONGOMA) and NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA). Umunthu Plus is implementing programs focusing on health, education, Agriculture and Climate Change, Gender and human rights and general livelihood targeting most vulnerable populations.

Umunthu Plus is seeking to hire qualified candidates to fill the following positions;

1: Health Program Officer – (Location- Nkhotakota)

Purpose:
Health Program Officer oversee health program, including planning, coordinating, and implementing and reporting health services and health education activities. To evaluate the effectiveness of health program and make necessary improvements or changes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The duties and responsibilities of Health Program Officer include:
  • Developing detailed Program plans, budgets, setting timelines, and ensuring that activities are implemented according to plan and budget. This includes coordinating with various stakeholders and managing resources effectively
  • Implementing health education programs and campaigns
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of health programs and making necessary adjustments
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, educators, community organizations, community structures and community members
  • Assessing community health needs and developing strategies to address these needs
  • Training staff and volunteers on health education activities and procedures
  • Maintaining and updating health education materials and resources
  • Ensuring compliance with health regulations and policies
  • Managing program budgets and resources
  • Managing, Coaching and mentoring of Field Officers, volunteers, and beneficiaries to ensure that they achieve their targets and realize health program goals.
  • Regularly monitoring project activities and evaluating their impact to ensure the project’s goals are met.
  • Preparing detailed reports on project activities, challenges, and successes
  • Reporting on program activities and outcomes to relevant stakeholders

Skills, Experience Abilities and Qualifications

  • Proven work experience as a Health Program Officer or similar role for 3-5 years.
  • Strong skills in planning, organizing, and overseeing project activities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with rural communities, build trust, and facilitate participation.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Strong computer literate skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with rural communities, build trust, and facilitate participation.
  • Able to prepare detailed reports, document activities, and communicate progress to stakeholders and donors.
  • Strong facilitation skills, including the design and management of effective trainings, workshops and meetings with a diverse population;
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to work effectively across a wide variety of cultural contexts
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Community Health, Nursing, Public Health or relevant field
